Horizon 2020 (H2020) is the EC’s research and innovation funding programme. It runs from 2014-2020 and has a budget of €80 billion. By coupling research and innovation, Horizon 2020 puts emphasis on excellent science, industrial leadership and tackling societal challenges. The goal is to ensure that Europe produces world-class science, removes barriers to innovation and makes it easier for the public and private sectors to work together in delivering innovation. Like the previous framework programmes, it is split into different funding schemes.
